We have just returned from a long walk on the Moor, taking Moss the beautiful black labrador from our local pub with us. It was lovely and sunny but still freezing cold. I spotted this frozen water which looked just like "Ice Bats" hanging from a branch over one of the many Dartmoor streams. We walked up to Birch Tor, (where the other photo was taken) then down past the remote Headland Warren Farm and on past the Medieval Village at Challacombe finally ending up at The Warren House Inn for a welcome glass of real ale and some crisps for Moss!

I have just returned from a late afternoon walk around the Hunters path below Castle Drogo. Below me the deep winding gorge where the river Teign flows looked amazing as it was completely white with a hoar frost where the sun does not reach at this time of year. As I sat there I was joined by a friendly Robin who joined me on the bench sitting so close I could have touched it, he did not even mind being photographed!

Another glorious day with not a cloud in sight. We took the day off and headed for Sidmouth which looked as lovely as ever. Had a great lunch at Otterton Mill sitting out in the sun with a very tame Robin serenading us. Then a walk along the River Otter to its mouth at Budleigh Salterton. It was teaming with birds and to crown it all we saw a Kingfisher!

A new year and at last a sunny day. I had a long early morning walk back to Chagford from Castle Drogo enjoying the wonderful views and glimpses of Fallow deer. It feels like spring is here at last with the Great tit's singing their "Machu Pichu" Songs and the Dippers singing and posing along the river. I can even get my latest oils out and varnish them!
