5th November 1916

Exactly 100 years ago today my Father Captain John H F Ludgate was badly wounded leading his men in the Battle of  The Somme where they were trying trying to take the Butte de Warlencourt. Luckily he survived but his intended carrer as an artist was never to happen although he did produce some really fine drypoint etchings which I am displaying in my gallery in Chagford.

I spotted this little band of Sparrows nestling into these hollows in the thatch roof of the pub in Drewsteignton yesterday evening, it looks a cosy spot for them to spend the night!

"Making Dreams Come True"

This oil painting of mine has just been presented to Noel Fitzpatrick the "Supervet", commissioned by his fan club as a thank you for all the wonderful work he is doing at his practice Fitzpatrick Referrals in Godalming, Surrey. It shows his dog Keira and also his practice with some of the animals he has treated and his favourite saying from Dr Seuss The Lorax "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot nothing is going to get better its not."

Nightingales

Someone has just told me they heard a Nightingale singing on the common here in Chagford! I do hope so as there is nothing quite so thrilling as the sound of a Nightingale like this one I painted singing in the May blossom.
